Finding some motivation

A friend of my recently completed her first 70.3 triathlon. Congrats Holly! Great race! Her accomplishment has me thinking about fitness, pregnancy, and my postpartum fitness plans. I sent her this text message today
I am so inspired by your race! I want my body and my fitness back! I miss my mtn bike so bad it hurts! I love this baby and being pregnant is awesome but I need the adrenaline and endorphins that only endurance exercise and training can provide!!!
I don't want to rush the pregnancy in any way but so much of my identity over the last few years is caught up in my fitness. I'm currently feeling lost without it. For those moms that read my blog, did you experience this identity crisis? How have your priorities, expectations, and identity evolved to include being a Momma and keeping up a fitness routine? That's all I have for today. I'm going to drag my butt out into this heat for a little 5k jog/ walk and see if I can't get my endorphins flowing!

  1. Don't worry you will find the time to be a FIT MOMMA. But I do understand how hard it is to hold back while pregnant. Exercise makes me feel so much better and even though you can work out while pregnant I was constantly worried about being safe for the baby. Naturally I was limited on what I could espeically those last few weeks. Best advice I can give is to get your baby excited about fitness. That way as they grow up they will love to exercise and will be begging to train for the next race with you. My kids are 8, 5, 3, and almost 2. They older boys constantly ask to go running or to do a family challenge. I love it!

    1. I can't believe how old your kids are already! My goodness they grow up fast! Josh and I are definitely hoping to lead by example that fitness is just a daily part of life. I look forward to a time when we can go for family bike rides and morning jogs. I can't wait to put the baby in the jogger and start tackling hill climbs! I'm just at this stage in pregnancy where I need to keep the kid in the oven a few more weeks and my desire to exercise is outweighed by my size and energy levels and my huge to-do list...

  2. I had similar worries when pregnant with Magoo - and it did take me a little while to get my 'self' back as he had many health issues as a baby.
Running was a great stress reliever tho!
We have an exercise bike, weights and a rower at home so I used these as much as possible when Magoo was little or when I only had (have) small snippets of time.
I have also been through three sets of tyres on my Phil & Ted's Vibe pram!
That said, I joined a running club, improved all my PBs and I ran my first marathon AFTEr having Magoo.
    :-) x
